What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a 15-amino-acid synthetic peptide derived from a protective sequence found in human gastric juice. It has been studied extensively in rodent models for its effects on accelerating healing of tendons, ligaments, muscles, bones, and intestinal tissue. The proposed mechanisms include upregulation of growth hormone receptors in tendon fibroblasts, stimulation of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis for angiogenesis, and modulation of the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Despite significant preclinical evidence — over 100 published animal studies — no Phase II or Phase III human clinical trials have been completed. BPC-157 is not FDA-approved, not a registered dietary supplement, and is classified as a research chemical in most jurisdictions. All human dosing information is extrapolated from animal studies and anecdotal reports from the biohacking community; it should be treated as unvalidated.

How to Take BPC-157

**Titration schedule (research-context, extrapolated from animal data):** - **Week 1–2 (low dose):** 200–250 mcg/day to assess individual tolerance. - **Week 3–4 (standard dose):** 400–500 mcg/day, split into two injections or taken orally. - **Maintenance / injury protocol:** 500 mcg/day for 4–6 weeks; discontinue and reassess. - **Oral vs. subcutaneous:** Oral administration (dissolved in bacteriostatic water, swallowed) is used for gut-related indications. Subcutaneous injection near the injury site is used for tendon/muscle healing in animal models. Neither route has validated human pharmacokinetic data. Product purity is a major concern — BPC-157 is synthesised by research chemical companies with highly variable quality standards. Only use products with third-party HPLC certificates of analysis.

Timing Recommendations

No established human timing data. Animal studies typically use once- or twice-daily dosing. Morning and pre-sleep injections are the most common anecdotal protocols. For gut healing, oral dosing is typically taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before meals.

Potential Side Effects & Safety

Reported side effects in anecdotal human use include nausea, dizziness, and mild fatigue — mostly at higher doses. No systematic human safety data exists. The long-term effects of exogenous BPC-157 on endogenous peptide regulation, oncogenesis, or organ function in humans are entirely unknown. Animal studies have not shown tumour promotion, but this cannot be extrapolated to humans without clinical trials.

Who should avoid BPC-157?

Anyone with a history of cancer or pre-cancerous lesions should avoid BPC-157, as its pro-angiogenic effects are theoretically concerning. Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals must not use it. Individuals on anticoagulants or immunosuppressants should exercise extreme caution. Due to the complete absence of human clinical data, use by anyone with serious underlying conditions is strongly discouraged.

Best Stacks with BPC-157

Anecdotally combined with TB-500 (thymosin beta-4) for synergistic tissue repair in the biohacking community. No human RCT data supports any combination protocol.

Safety notes

  • NOT FDA-approved. Not a dietary supplement. This is an unvalidated research peptide — human safety data does not exist.
  • Only use products with third-party HPLC certificates of analysis; purity is highly variable across vendors.
  • Do not use if you have a history of cancer — pro-angiogenic effects are theoretically concerning.
  • Avoid during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Consult a physician before use if you take any prescription medication.
